about

"That which is without truth, is without meaning" - anon.

"Epoch" is the final instalment of a trilogy of thematically linked albums, which began with 2020's "AFTERGLOW" and continued through 2021's "The Global Machine". These albums take an approached indebted to the 80s, in particular progressive rock and electronic music from this era.

As distinct from the synth and guitarwave sounds of the previous two albums, "Epoch" is a more earthy, experimental, and progressive album, influenced by David Sylvian, King Crimson, and Can, as well as late 80s ambient music, such as Brian Eno and Holger Czukay.

"The Watcher" sets the scene with an ambient introduction before an offbeat drum pattern kicks in. As the track progresses we hear intertwined guitar parts and a hectic lead guitar before drifting back into an ambient soundscape.

"Tumble-deuce" displays heavily compressed drums, blaring trumpets and cosmic keyboards. "You Turn Away" starts with a pulse of clockwork chimes and bells, moving to a trip-hop beat, and peaks with a crescendo of distorted guitars.

"Electrolysis One" features pure "Red"-era King Crimson riffing, with a contrasting calmer vocal section in its second half. Cinematic jazzy piano and ethnic rhythms come to the fore on "Complications", and the two-part "Over", features kalimbas, multiple poly-rhythmical drums, funky bass, and intricate guitar parts; the second part of which brings the album to a close with a washed out, spacey atmosphere.

"Epoch" is not afraid of wearing its experimental progressive influences on its sleeve. Completing the trilogy project has been a four-year effort, and this album brings the curtain down in the most compelling and diverse way.
