about

“The Global Machine” is the second in a trilogy of themed albums, which started with 2021’s “Afterglow”. The trilogy aims to explore influences from the late 80s and early 90s, to see how the music of that time can influence the decision-making process. With that approach in mind, this album isn't afraid to have a little fun.

While “Afterglow” was a sprawling, 15-track affair, “The Global Machine” is short and tight, and consists of two distinct halves – the first being more accessible music, the second more experimental - with a strong influence from progressive rock and pop of the era.

The album starts with the upbeat and driving “Warp”, and if ever there was a moment to claim a genre, this could be described as ‘guitarwave’. With a breathless rhythm and dynamically tight interlocking guitars, this is a true statement of intent and sets the tone for the music that follows.

The subsequent tracks draw on influences such as chillwave (“Crazy Rich”), 80’s pop (“Twerp”), and ambient funk (“Frameless”), before taking a leftfield turn. “Machinery” starts with frantic techno beats before gradually building into a darkly ambient, floating piece. “Nerve” and “Alan & Twin” are funky, ambient, progressive, and live sounding all at once, while the closer “Samana” takes a more minimalistic approach and ends the album on a quietly reflective note.

“The Global Machine” is an experimental and extraordinarily unique album that brings develops and expands on it's 80s influences, without losing sight of Robert Crosbie / Geisha's incomparable sound.
